IRESEN AND THE SOLAR DECATHLON AFRICA DESIGN CHALLENGE 2024

The Organizers

The Research Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN) is the organizer of the Solar Decathlon Africa Design Challenge 2024, alongside the Green & Smart Bulding Park (GSBP) and in collaboration with Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). This international competition invites students to design innovative, net-zero energy buildings that meet the specific needs of Africa. The competition is entirely online, and students have to propose solutions for real construction projects, in collaboration with local partners. The finalist teams will have the opportunity to present their projects at an in-person event in June 2024 is in Ben Guerir. IRESEN is proud to support the Solar Decathlon Africa Design Challenge 2024, which represents a unique opportunity for students to develop their skills, show their creativity, collaborate with local actors, and contribute to the energy transition and sustainable development of Africa. IRESEN wishes to foster innovation, collaboration and leadership in the field of sustainable construction, and hopes that this competition will inspire the future actors of clean energy in Africa and in the world.

ABOUT IRESEN

The Research Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN) was created in the margin of the “Energy Forum” in 2011 at the initiative of the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Environment and several public and private actors of the energy sector in order to support the national energy strategy through market-oriented applied research and innovation in the field of green technologies. IRESEN is today a major actor supporting the national energy strategy and positions itself on the entire value chain of green innovation, through its two instruments :

  • Infrastructures: Network of research and innovation platforms in green technologies.
  • Agency of Means: Funding of collaborative applied research and innovation projects.

The Institute also contributes to the development of technological roadmaps in the clean energy sector: Solar Resources, Electric Mobility, Green Hydrogen…
